SMAI :
SMAI was founded in 1983 by a group of prominent French applied mathematicians who had become aware of the specific needs of their discipline and wanted to work for its continuing growth.
Members of SMAI come both from the academic and industrial communities. They are experts in scientific computing, numerical analysis, partial differential equations, applied probability theory, statistics, control, automatic control, optimisation and discrete mathematics, among others..
The main goal of the Society is to aid the development of applied mathematics through research, industrial applications, teaching and the training of researchers and engineers.
SMAI engages in several publishing endeavours and organises meetings, workshops, conferences and summer schools.
